Mission

The CPCM mission is to equip the community of Christians to penetrate the contemporary society with the light and salt of the gospel through ministries focussed on bridging the gap between Christian scholarship and the community of believers

Need for such a ministry

There is a serious problem of Christian illiteracy in Africa. More and more Christians are entering institutions of Christian higher learning such as theological colleges, and even Christian universities, to deepen their understanding of the faith but this deepened understanding is not getting through to the people of God as a whole.

In his book The Theological Task of the Church in Africa (p. 50), the well known evangelical theologian, Tite Tienou, draws attention to this alarming gap.He suggests that at least part of the problem is the gap between academic and popluar theology. The academic theology that is studied in Africa's theological colleges, is theology developed for an international audience removed from the daily life of the people of Africa. The popular theology that has meaning for them is expressed in hymns, preaching, and counsel given by pastors and other spiritual leaders on a day to day basis. What is saddening is that what is happening at the academic level is having little practical impact on this popular theology that shapes the daily lives of people. The situation, Tite notes, is alarming because popular theology is not always grounded in and governed by the scriptures-pp50. It has to be acknowledged, of course, that academic theology also is not always grounded in and governed by the Scriptures.CPCM aims to address this problem by promotingwhat Tienou views as a third approach: a deepened understanding of the faith that is both academically credible and meets the popular needs
of the people of Africa today.

The unity and trinity of God, eternally existing in three coequal persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, in, through and for whom all creation was made, in whom alone salvation is possible, and in whom all things find perfect unity.
The subjection of all creation to futility through the fall and the fulfilment of all creation through Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.
The necessity of the new birth as the work of the Holy Spirit through which alone we are saved by grace through faith, and become members of the body of Jesus Christ, the church.
The divine inspiration and infallibility of Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and their ultimate authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
Personal, bodily return of Christ, the resurrection of the dead and the last judgement.

Facilitate, encourage and stumilate interest in reading and community education amongst Christians in order to eradicate illiterancy and particularly Christian illiteracy by all possible means.
Facilitate the implementation of strategies for the constructive involvement of the Christian community as change agents for good -- the salt and light of the world -- in society and specifically in identified social groups.
Conduct and collaborate in workshops, seminars and conferences that are in harmony with the vision and purpose of the organization.
Organise, facilitate and participate in research on African realities.
Be involved in an apologetic ministry of Christianity, in humility and love, in order to clear distorted views of Christ and Christian faith.
8. Engage in such other activities, consistent with the philosophy of the organisation, as may contribute to the achievement of the mission.

Much needs to be done. We can do this only in partnership with not only other organisations and institutions but individual Christians. We need prayer support, counsel and constructive criticism, and financial support. Why not become a CPCM supporter now so that you can be a partner with us in this ministry?
